For the past few years I’ve been struggling with undiagnosed sleep apnea. Officially it’s undiagnosed because I have the internet and know the symptoms and don’t like the “official” solutions. The best of which seems to be weight loss, and I can manage that on my own..
Anyways, in an effort to get a better grasp on my sleep hygiene and health, I picked up the Withings sleep tracking matt. Two actually, one for me and one for the GF. Each one spans half of our bed, which kinda kills cuddling (we don’t want to interfere with each other’s readings) but otherwise seems to have worked out okay.
Below is an example graph showing my sleep activity from the first night.
The Withings mobile app provides additional information that I haven’t been able to locate on their desktop website… Which is lame. But that is the information I’m actually more interested in as it pertains to sleep apnea/breathing problems:
As you can see, I’m apparently really bad at breathing while I’m sleeping, which can lead to a whole host of serious health problems if left untreated… Which I mostly intend to do. I will be working on my weight and overall health and hope that will ripple into some positive changes here (obesity is one of the primary causes of sleep apnea) but otherwise I’m not really planning to directly address the apnea. So pray for my GF who has to listen to me saw logs like a lumberjack each night.
I’ll make sure to update again once all of the metrics from the sleep tracker have settled, some take multiple nights (3+) to display in the app.
